Fitted with Go-Pro cameras on their helmets, Al-Qaeda militants raided western Aleppo this weekend, targeting the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) positions near the abandoned Orphanage Center in the Jamiyat Al-Zahraa district.
According to the official media wing of Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham (HTS), the jihadist group somehow snuck behind the frontline itself and ambushed a SAA platoon not far from the government-held Air Force Intelligence building
.Although no government troops were shown in the video itself, HTS said it killed 9 soldiers and destroyed a 14,5 mm machine-gun positions before withdrawing to its original positions on the outskirts of Aleppo city.
Although officially covered by a so-called safe zone, the western suburbs of Aleppo have been persistently targeted by both Ahrar Al-Sham and HTS in recent weeks while the SAA has maintained a largely defensive stance, holding its ground against the ongoing jihadist onslaught which has seen a large number of SPG-9 rocket launchers put into use.
