A delegation from the US Afghanistan War Commission met Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir at General Headquarters (GHQ), according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The delegation was led by Shumaila N. Chaudhary and Dr Colin F. Jackson and is reviewing the United States’ 20-year involvement in Afghanistan.
According to ISPR, the meeting covered matters of mutual interest, Pakistan’s assistance regarding Afghanistan, the regional security situation and developments in Afghanistan.
Field Marshal Asim Munir presented Pakistan’s perspective on the security dynamics that shaped the Afghanistan conflict and highlighted the challenges faced by Pakistan during the prolonged war, ISPR said.
The two sides also exchanged views on the Commission’s ongoing work and reviewed the strategic, diplomatic and operational aspects of the conflict.
Munir stressed the importance of incorporating the regional perspective and Pakistan’s experience into the Commission’s assessment, according to the military’s media wing.
The US delegation acknowledged what ISPR described as Pakistan’s long-standing role and sacrifices during the Afghanistan conflict.
The delegation also appreciated Pakistan’s continued efforts towards regional peace and stability, the statement said.
