Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar says the government believes in independent, strong, and responsible print media.
He was talking to a delegation of the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors, which called on him in Islamabad today.
The meeting discussed in detail the issues faced by the newspaper industry, reforms in the Audit Bureau of Circulation, the budget of news agencies, dues of media houses, and the issue of dummy newspapers.
The meeting agreed to reform the Audit Bureau of Circulation system.
The Minister said consultations will continue with all the relevant stakeholders to resolve the problems of the newspaper industry. He said making this system effective, transparent, and compatible with modern requirements is the need of the hour.
Attaullah Tarar further said payment of dues of media houses and matters related to news agencies will be pursued on a priority basis.
He said all possible support will be extended to resolve the legitimate issues faced by the media institutions.
