Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif says Pakistan's efforts for peace between the United States and Iran have enhanced the country's respect and positive narrative at the international level.
Speaking in the National Assembly today, he said this achievement could not have been secured even by spending billions of rupees.
The Prime Minister expressed confidence that 'The Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding', signed by the United States and Iran, will evolve into a long lasting agreement within sixty days.
He said Pakistan played a pivotal and historic role in facilitating the truce between the two countries.
Referring to the talks held between the two sides in Switzerland, he said Pakistan made sincere and tireless efforts to bridge the differences between the United States and Iran. He noted that the joint statement was finalized after the detailed negotiations that continued day and night.
Referring to the visit of the Iranian President, the Prime Minister said relations between the two countries have strengthened over the last three months. He said discussions will be held with the Iranian President to further strengthen them.
Responding to the points of the opposition leader, the Prime Minister once again reiterated his stance for the development of all the provinces.
Earlier, responding to the remarks of the opposition leader, the speaker emphatically stated that he will not allow speeches against Pakistan, the armed forces and the judiciary.
Meanwhile, speaking in the National Assembly on the points raised by the opposition members, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said the government will continue to negotiate with the IPPs to secure more relief for the public.
He said the present government successfully renegotiated and revised contracts with Independent Power Producers, emphasizing this will collectively help save about 3.5 trillion rupees in future payments.
He noted that while negotiations with IPPs were also held in the past, but it failed to achieve any breakthrough.
