Superman is proving he’s more than just a superhero — he’s a box office phenomenon. for the second consecutive week, Warner Bros.
DC Studios’ latest Superman film has topped the North American box office, earning an impressive $57.3 million in the United States and Canada alone.
This strong performance brings the film’s domestic total to $235 million, while international sales have added $171 million, pushing the global haul past the $400 million mark.
Industry experts credit the movie’s largely positive reviews and high-octane action sequences for its lasting appeal among audiences.
However, Superman isn’t the only blockbuster drawing crowds this weekend. The dinosaur epic Jurassic World: Rebirth remains a close competitor, claiming second place with $23.4 million domestically and a massive worldwide total of $647 million.
The film stars Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, and Mahershala Ali, and continues to captivate viewers with its thrilling plot set on a mysterious island filled with genetically modified dinosaurs.
Not every release has matched expectations, though. The horror sequel I Know What You Did Last Summer opened at third place but struggled with a modest $13 million, surprising analysts given its franchise history.
Industry insider David A. Gross noted that unlike most horror revivals that gain momentum after long breaks, this title failed to connect with audiences.
Other notable performers include Smurfs, featuring Rihanna as Smurfette, which opened in fourth place with $11 million, and F1: The Movie, starring Brad Pitt as a faded racing star seeking redemption, which finished fifth with $9.6 million.
Looking ahead, the competition will intensify with Marvel’s highly anticipated The Fantastic Four: First Steps, starring Pedro Pascal, set to hit theaters soon. This upcoming release promises to challenge Superman’s dominance and keep the superhero rivalry alive.
Rounding out the weekend’s top 10 are:
-
How to Train Your Dragon ($5.4M)
-
Eddington ($4.3M)
-
Elio ($2.0M)
-
Lilo & Stitch ($1.5M)
-
28 Years Later ($1.3M)
With a diverse lineup of superheroes, action, monsters, horror, and animation, this summer’s box office race remains unpredictable — and Superman’s fans are eagerly watching to see who will claim the throne next.
