  • Sajal Aly’s response to working with Asif Raza Mir revealed by Nadeem Baig

Acclaimed Pakistani director Nadeem Baig recently appeared on a podcast hosted by renowned journalist Maliha Rehman, where he shared behind-the-scenes insights into his decision to cast Sajal Aly and Asif Raza Mir as a father-daughter duo in the upcoming drama serial Manto.

The casting choice drew public attention due to the actors’ personal history — Sajal Aly was previously married to Ahad Raza Mir, the son of Asif Raza Mir. The couple has since parted ways for undisclosed reasons.

During the candid conversation, Baig admitted he initially hesitated to approach both actors for the roles, given their complex past.

However, he also revealed how both Sajal and Asif reacted when offered the roles — offering a glimpse into their professionalism and mutual respect despite personal history.

Nadeem added that Asif Raza Mir took a pause for a few minutes and later responded professionally by saying: “Not at all, I am a professional actor and I have no issue if that character is for me. Please ask Sajal if he does not have any issues.”

Nadeem Baig later emphasized that when he called Sajal and asked for the same, she also demonstrated professionalism and showed respect for the senior actor.

“Nadeem Bhai, if he suits the character, please cast him. I have no issue, Sajal said when he informed her about playing as father and daughter in the project.”

The filmmaker also shared a sneak peek about their cordial bonding on set, which sometimes led him to reprimand them.
